CO S54 — Dillon Mesa (West Elk). Terrain & Access Dillon Mesa spans 447,500 acres across the West Elk Mountains with elevation ranging from 6,365 to 13,019 feet. High public-land availability (87%) and relatively low wilderness percentage (31%) create a unit where much of the terrain is accessible without guide requirement. The unit combines lower-elevation sagebrush and piñon-juniper foothills with mid-elevation aspen and conifer forests, transitioning to alpine tundra and rocky slopes in the high country.
