Terrain & Access Unit 22 spans 251,000 acres across high-elevation terrain (4,500–11,000 ft), with 71% public land offering solid access to National Forest and public domain country. Forty-two percent wilderness means significant backcountry terrain; however, a substantial mixed-use foundation supports foot and vehicle access across much of the unit's lower and mid-elevation zones.
