CO 501 Tactical Analysis. Terrain & Access CO 501 spans 321,077 acres across a steep elevation gradient—from 6,088 ft in lower drainages to 12,424 ft in the high peaks. Nearly 95% is public land, primarily national forest, offering exceptional access for self-guided hunters. However, 36% wilderness designation means significant backcountry terrain that requires fitness and navigation skill.
