Santiam (OR). Terrain & Access The Santiam unit spans 2.1 million acres across the central Oregon Cascades, with elevations ranging from 11 to over 10,000 feet. Two-thirds of the unit sits on public land—primarily National Forest and BLM—providing solid access for independent hunters. Fourteen percent is designated wilderness, which concentrates hiking and scouting into specific drainages while leaving the majority of lower and mid-elevation terrain accessible via established roads and trails.
