CO 70 – Tactical Analysis. Terrain & Access CO 70 spans nearly a million acres across dramatic elevation, from lower foothills at 4,838 feet to alpine summits above 13,000 feet. This vertical relief creates diverse habitat zones—sagebrush and piñon-juniper at lower elevations, transitioning through aspen and mixed conifer to high-country tundra. With 74.5% public land, access is solid for most of the unit. Terrain is rugged and requires serious physical conditioning; high-elevation country demands steep climbing and challenging navigation, especially in early-season conditions when snow lingers at altitude.
